Morgan squeezed the phone in her hand and spoke through gritted teeth. “What the hell are you talking about?”

“Synfani is on her way there with Donovan and he needs your help. I ask you again, don’t hurt her.”

“What did she do to my son?”

“She didn’t do anything. She’s actually trying to help.”

“Then why would you think I’d hurt her? If she hasn’t done…” Morgan’s words stopped in her throat and she stared at the woman carrying her son across the yard. “I’ve got to go, Cayson.”

“Don’t hurt her.”

Morgan hit the end button and laid the phone on the table in front of her before stepping off the porch and walking toward the pair.

Synfani’s heart slammed against her ribcage when she saw Morgan walking toward her. Coming to a stop, she laid Donovan on the ground and completed the shift to her human form. Taking a step away from the man at her feet, she waited for Morgan to reach them before bowing slightly. “My Lady. I… I didn’t know where else to bring him.”

Morgan studied Synfani’s face, looking for any sign that she would attack her. Satisfied that she was harmless, she handed the woman a robe before kneeling down next to Donovan and turning his face toward her. “You did the right thing, bringing him here. You mind telling me what happened to him?”

“A demon is trying to get control of his beast.” She shrugged, looking down at the robe, and took another step back, preparing to take flight. “At least, that’s what Cayson said.”

Morgan whispered beneath her breath and smiled when she heard Synfani gasp. “You’ll be staying here just a little longer.” Taking the robe from her, Morgan helped her put it on and belted it closed at the waist.

Synfani fought against the invisible hold and sucked in a strangled breath as the pressure on her chest increased.

“The more you struggle the tighter the spell becomes. Calm down and it’ll loosen.”

Synfani forced herself to stop struggling and breathed a sigh of relief when she felt the grip loosen. “Why are you doing this? Why can’t I leave.”

Morgan kept her eyes on Donovan’s face as she spoke to Synfani. “We have many things to discuss, like why you never mentioned that you were a raghosh.” Lifting her head, she noticed Synfani flinch.

Meeting Morgan’s purple eyes, she tried to lift her hand and sighed when she couldn’t move. “It’s not something I share with others. I haven’t allowed myself to shift in years because it’s too dangerous.”

Touching Donovan’s head, Morgan focused on clearing his mind before waving her hand and sending him to his room in her house. “You took a great risk coming here.”

“I know, but he needed help.”

Pushing to her feet, Morgan walked over to stand in front of Synfani. She studied the younger woman’s face, noticing for the first time the way her skin seemed to glow from within. “You understand his beast wants to kill you?”

Synfani sagged in relief when she felt Morgan release the spell.
